While home over Christmas, I was fortunate enough to visit the local Hooters. Never. Again. Let's just say this. I'm not quite sure how some of them got jobs there. Aren't they supposed to be somewhat pretty?
Either way, I almost had to get in a fight with a bartender. Not really, I'm way too classy to get in a physical fight with someone. I stood at the bar for far too long and she ignored me.
I watched her. She loaded her dishwasher. Asked the smug man sitting next to me what he wanted to eat. Walked around like she didn't know what she was doing. I even stood on the foot rail to make myself taller and hence more noticeable and she still did not notice me. It wasn't until I waved my hand in her face when finally she asked "What do you need?" Um. How about a freaking adult beverage Ma'am.
I told her the least she could have done was to tell me she'd be right with me. I mean I know I'm cuter than your cracked out self, but I deserve service too even though I didn't slap male bits up on the counter. Didn't say that one either, but C'mon people. $4.36 later, I left her no tip, but I got broken glass in my mouth and all over my glass. I should have complained to the manager, but I didn't. Oh well.
What is wrong with people in customer service these days? I've worked in it for a few years now, and I agree that it can be tiring, especially in this "the customer is always right" world. It's tough, but that doesn't mean that you should be hateful!
Lately, it seems as though you have 2 extremes. Cracked out people who are trying too hard or people who don't give a shit and ignore you.
One day over the break Classy and I went out to lunch and our waiter reminded me of the guy in Office Space who was urging Jennifer Anniston's part to get more flair. This guy had so much energy and was way too eager to make sure our dining experience was pleasurable. At one point he walked up to the table and asked if I was "Done-zo". Really? Out of all of the words you could have used you chose that one, sir? I couldn't help myself. I giggled.
I know I sound picky. All I'm asking for is some genuinity. It's not very difficult (at least not for me) to approach a table and get them what they need and not be cheesy. I don't want to be treated like the only person in the restaurant. I just want some genuine service.
